305 to 350 swap
yes i have a 1991 rs. i have a 1969 chevy 350 motor i want to swap out with the 305. i was woundering if anybody has any advice for me. i want to keep the t.b.i. system on the car. is this possoble and if so can i use the origanal computer. i also hace a 600 cfm carb i may just throw on. what should i do and what would be easier. also im on a very tight budget. i just want more hp. i also have 202 heads for the 350. could i just put them on the 305. idk what to do i just want hp for cheap. thanks

you can put the 2.02 heads on the 305, but its not all that worthwhile. do you have emissions where you live? if not, go with the carb. if so, you will need an 86 and earlier intake, a tbi unit from a 350, a computer or chip from a 350 (or have one made from pcmforless.com), and a flexplate or flywheel to work with the older engine. everything else should be pretty much bolt together

if you are on a tight budget, leave the 305 alone for now. save up and build the 350 as you would like it. if you want to do anything with the 305 for now while you are building up the 350, put on a full exhaust system as it will transfer over to the 350. i was in the same place as you at one point. my 305 blew up, and i had a 350 that needed a total rebuild. after a long time of waiting and saving, i got a loan and bought a crate engine

i was thinking of doing the same thing. my 350 needs a rebuild. well it deosnt but i want to make it a 383 and get my head ported and polished. idk what would be cheaper though. just build up my 350 or do like you and get a creat motor. time will tell i fuess. i just bought this car. i looked and looked and my body and interior almost brand new the only prob was i turned down a 350 tpi 87 i rock. but i new with a clean car to start i can build and put the motor i want in it. i really like the tpi systems i was maybe even thinking of trying to find a used tpi and comp and try to put that in. whos knows for now.

the tpi setup is very expensive to modify. im at $1500 just for injections, throttle body, tune, and needed sensors for my tpi to function. however still running the stock runners and base really restricts my hp. a new intake is about $700, and i will also need a new tune and bigger fuel pump. tpi is expensive, but it looks beautiful. you could always get a holley short ram efi system, its under $2000 and has everything needed to run efi
