Default Transmission Question

I have a 85 z28 and am looking at upgrading to a 350 and have found a ZZ4 motor. I currently have a 5 speed manual, a t5, and would like to stay with the manual transmission. The t5 is not rated to handle this motor. What manual transmission would be good. The rear end is 3.08 - will this handle the power/torque?

how is the t5? Does it shift ok? I wouldn't toss it unless it was broken.

New clutch and resurface the flywheel (if it can) and see how it goes

Failure could be accelerated depending on how you drive it. That's not to say that you can't have fun, I just wouldn't drag race every day.

Would you mind telling us what that answer is, in case someone else comes along with the same question?

Thanks for your response Ebony. I am replacing the 305 motor with a 350 and when I pull the transmission I will check the fly well and do what needs to be done. Thank you for that. The t56 is almost a direct fit for the T5 with a couple of modifications. One is the hole for the shifter needs to be cut back by a couple of inches and the mounting brackets has to be modified or purchase a pre-made bracket. There is a thread on hear about changing from the t5 to the t56 that was very helpful.

Thanks for coming back and letting us know! It's always appreciated when we're able to see what solution someone found for their problem- you never know when someone else might come along with the same issue.
