Step one- Check emission laws in your area, Figure out if this is even allowed. Catts? EGR? Some States without emissions will add line items to their safety inspection that are emission related.
Step Two- Since you are tossing the ECU find out what else it runs. I think you are ok with the trans on a 92 but I am not sure about the speedo and other gages. (the newer the car the more a pain this is)
Step three- Decide how you will handle the fuel system, Are you going to use the factory pump with the regulator and a return line? Or you can get a sending unit form a carb car and just use the normal small block mounted pump.
Step three- Cooling. The two waste products your car gives off is exhaust and heat. For sake of design assume 1/3 of the energy of an engine is output also in heat. So your 150 hp 305 needs to deal with 50 hp worth of heat. So if you’re new engine is 300 hp an upgraded radiator and fan may be needed.
Of course you’re trans and rear may become an issue. GM builds transmission per application so a L98 350 700R4 is stronger the 700R4 that is behind a 305. You can deal with that as they break. This is also a great time for exhaust upgrades, this is about as easy as it gets swap wise.
Good Luck
Edit: Opps, Forgot the TCC, You will have figure out the lock up torque converter. You can replace it or buy a controller for it.
