Thinking about putting twin turbo on this camaro. Worth it?
A guy I know on FB is thinking about putting a twin turbo on the factory 305. Here is the pic, which I took from FB. Opinions? Should he?
Thank you.
Thank you.

wouldn't ever put turbo on a 305... just not worth it... you'd have to build up the motor completely to handle it, bare block, have it machined, replace all components inside, better heads... might as well start with a 383 and do it right... and then you're looking at upgrading the trans, diff, axles, etc...
but back to the original question, you can put turbos on... just plan on a blown motor

The 305 is a block designed to be as light as possible for better fuel mileage. The bottom end is weak. Step one to making your car fast is to switch to a engine block that can handle some power.
Making a twin turbo system would cost upward of 20K (just the turbo system and controller) even a single turbo would be 5K with you doing some of the fabrication. As stated above to get everything out of the 5K investment you need to build the motor to handle the turbo and the trans and rear to support it in addition to the 5K.
If you keep a close eye on craigs list you can find 1st generation motors being pulled from "Projects" to make way for LSx upgrades. The old school small blocks are selling for a fraction of what they did 6 years ago.
