Default t-5 Transmission

Please correct me if I am wrong...but don't the 92 camaro rs 5 spds come with a t-5. I have been trying to find a new one and Summit says they don't exist. Any recommendations on where to get one or if I have the wrong part number for the transmission. Summit says they only exist for Fords. Am I wrong?

It is a t5 but they are different then the fords. I am not aware of anyone that makes an exact replacement. Most guys just buy used ones and if they want they can send them to be rebuilt.

The Camaro T5 have the shifter rotated 15 degs. If you look at the Camaro bell housing the bolt patterns is not level. Camaro T5's have several configuration. Example a 92 T5 will not fit a 93 and the 95 T5 with not fit a 96.

Where would I find a used one. I have no idea where to find parts for these cars. Is there a good sight that carries 3rd generation parts for sale? Monte carlos had a really good replacement part site for example. I just don't know where to find some of this stuff and I want to be really informed going into it. You seem to be really knowledgeable and I appreciate all of your advice. I can handle all the motor stuff itself. Me and my uncle have rebuilt many small block chevys for dirt racing but I know nothing about the newer fuel systems or the transmissions as we have never worked on those. I would love to get a t56 but those things are 3000 dollars new at summit. Do you have any other recommendations for a 5 or 6 speed that would be little modification. Unfortunately, the one 350 tpi auto in my area is asking 8500 dollars. Which is out of my price range currently. Most everything I can afford is a 305rs with 5 spd.

I like the 700R cause I know you can build them to take some serious horsepower and still get the overdrive.

$8500 for a 3rd gen?
new paint?
no rust?
new interior?
new tires?
rebuilt engine?
rebuilt tranny?
no hack job holes in dash?
no cracked dashboard?
all accessories work?

in other words, nothing to be done to it?

if yes, then that's an OK price (maybe)

Hawks Third Generation ? 1982-2002 Camaro and Firebird Specialists

This is a good place to get new and used parts for 3rd and 4th gen F-bodies as well as a number of other vehicles.

I guess my biggest question is...what happens if you blow one up? What next? Where is the best place to find them. Most scrap yards are picked through now on 80s and 90s model cars.

Would hawks have things like this?

Is there any kind of direct fit replacement I can put in this thing? The tremec 5 speed is about 400 less than the 6 speed. I would rather spend the 3 grand and get 6 speeds that can handle a 350 on down the road.

Do most of you run regular or premium gas?

Check on ebay, there are a couple 3rd gen T5's out there now for a couple few hundred bucks. But if you plan on having a healthy 350 in the car, I wouldn't waste time with the T5. GM didn't put a T5 behind anything bigger than a 305, and yet some guys are running them hard behind bigger engines without breaking them.....yet.
You'd be better off finding a good used T56. Here's some conversion info: Manual Transmission Conversion
