Oil pressure
Hey guy's, I have a 92 camaro with a 305 tbi. Recently the oil pressure will drop to 0 after about 15 minutes of driving, even less time when it's hot outside. I Don't think it's the gauge because it's consistant, However if it really was at 0 and I drove with it that low the engine would sieze up right? What are some things I should look for or check out?

RE: Oil pressure
Well you might not want to drive it till you figure this out. gGet another gauge and check it, there are several things that could cause this type of thing, a bad oil pump, worn bearings. It might sill be getting enough pressure to keep from seizing up but there is definatly trouble. Also try changing your oil to a thicker oil, this IS NOT a cure but if the pressure comes up it will tell you if your bearings a worn.

RE: Oil pressure
more than likly you have a start of a engine going bad. its very unlikely that the sending unit is junk or the pump is frozen. adding a thicker oil may buy you alittle time and incresse the pressure but overall your bearings are cooked. its not going to hurt to drive the car like the previous guy said cuz the motors history and will need a complete rebuild anyways. if the cars in good shape toss a crate 350 into it

Try a differnt oil pressure sender.

I agree, try a different oil sending unit first. This is a cheap way to check what is going on. Try the guage next.
As was stated earlier, then try changing the oil and filter to see if this helps.
Did this just happen all at once or was the pressure drop a gradual thing over several weeks or months?
How many miles are on the car?
Does it make any mechanical noise of any kind from the engine?
