rear end gears
i have an 89 Camaro 5.0 V8, and i would liek to put 3:42's in my car. I dont know the exact gearing in the car now, but i do know its a pretty whimpy gear ratio. I think that replcacing the gearing in it should give it a tremendous difference. I've also been considering putting 4:10s in the car, which i realize is all acceleration, and its not like i'm going to have much room for top end aorund the city. Well anyway, if anyone has an opinion or knows the pricing and what it requires to put these gears in, it would be appreciated. I have a shop at my disposal so thats not an issue.

RE: rear end gears
I just put 3:73's in my 82. If you want just the gears it'll be about 130.00 for just the ring and pinion gears. if you want the full kit, well mine was about 320.00 but trust me man it's worth it. It comes with EVERYTHING you nee. You need to know what series carrier is in your car in order to buy the right set of gears. It should be on the upper left axel tube. You can get a manual to read the numbers unless you have the original book for it, it should be in your book somewhere. My buddy has 4:10's in his camaro, they're fine for around town but rpms stay high because of such a low ratio. Good luck!

Do you have an Auto/Manual?
L69 or LG4?
If you have a L69 the manuals have 3.73 and auto's have 3.42's OR 3.73's if you have a G92 rear.LG4's have 3.23's in Auto's and Manuals, unless you have a G92 rear you'll get 3.73's.
Kinda confusing.

3.73 is the way to go. I have an '84 that I put a 350 in and was thinking about 4.10 gears. The 3.73 gives you that added torque and control you want but you can also do some highway driving with it.
