Question 92 z28 or rs?

i came across a car thats currently 5 hours away from me and im thinking of possibly traing for it. the guy is claiming it to be a 92 z28. its white with the red heritage stripes and im only to see pics via text messaging. now im not completly stupid but the car has the z28 hood badging rear spoiler front bumper but the motor is the tbi and the speedo only reads 110. now i have done some research and 92 z28 was the tuned port and speedo reads 140. its a nice car and all but im not wanting a converted rs. now this wouldnt happen to be some kinda strange z28 they put out with the tbi in 92. i dont think so but somebody mite know better than me. it appears to be a converted rs and my buddies say the tbi wouldnt be worth it at all i need to get a tpi car. its a 5 speed at least. if anybody could help id be thankfull but i feel sure that its a fake.

It has to be an RS. You're right, the Z28's in '92 at the very least got the LB9 305. This engine was equipped with TPI.

if its a 5 speed, it means its a 305, which means the 110 speedo should be correct for either tbi or tpi

now the only way i can see this being a Real Z28 is if they guy will send you a clear picture of the Vin number and the SPID sheet, and if the guy sends you a pic with the air cleaner off and you seeing its Carb'd and not TBI, alot of guys switch their TPI's to Carb's and it will look like a TBI with the Air cleaner on top

If it has the 305 TBI LO3 it is a RS model. All 1992 Z28's came with the 305 LB9/350 L98 TPI engines...nothing else so it is a clone and not worth the price.

you cant say it's a clone just yet, how is the OP sure its TBI?, maybe the owner swapped in a Carb or even dropped a Carbed 350 in it? ive also seen alot of guys that will put an L03 into their Z just to keep it on the road until they rebuild or get a better motor

not saying this isnt just an RS with the Z28 appearance, but you cant tell unless you see it in person and Check the Spid sheet, match the vin to the Spid, which leads me to say if its 5hr's away and your not willing to drive just to see it, its probably not worth buying and you should look closer to home

oh and your friends must not know much about TBI, a properly built TBI motor can run with the best built TPI motor, the difference is if its a 305 or a 350, 350's are easier to make power with and will get your further, when it comes down to 305's either or can be built better than the other, and to tell you the truth, neither TBI nor TPI were great in these cars from the factory, that's why guys quickly swap out the TPI for either a Carb or a better Injection system like a Stealth Ram
