Belt diagram
I'm sure this has been brought up a million times, but does anyone have a link to a routing diagram for the belts? I heard my belt squeek last night, didn't think much of it. This morning my voltage meter was reading pretty low, looked under the hood and the belt was gone haha.

RE: Belt diagram
i suppose its a full serp? should be a diagram somewhere. if not, i think it varies on model by if it has an air pump and a/c or just one of each, or none. personally, i have no idea. id get the belt and eye it up, or look in a manual

RE: Belt diagram
I got it figured out...Turned out not to be as confusing as I was making it out to be. There isn't a sticker as the car has been repainted anda built motorby an earlier owner, and it seems he didn't like any of those "useful" stickers. Thanks for the responces though!!

RE: Belt diagram
I think the important thing to remember is put the belt around the crank and as it comes up from the crank on the right side (as you face it) then it goes under the water pump and over it from the left side. So as the crank turns clockwise the water pump turns counter clockwise. I know a guy that found out that you can get the belt on and have it rotate the wrong way. It was on a foord though sono big deal!

I have a 1986 camaro z28. I am having overheat problems. I have replaced everything. I am now wondering if maybe the belt is wrong. I ahve only a Alternator and power steering pummp. A 2inch wide V belt goes around the alternator, the water pump, and then the cank. Everything goes CLOCKWISE. Every digram I see uses a serpentine belt and the water pump runs counterclockwise. Should mine do that too? and how do I put a tensioner on it?

OK I think I have figured out my problem. Running the water pump clockwise It built pressure in the radiator and also coolant would flow out of the filler neck. So I took the thermostat out and now the coolant runs freely. Indicating to me that the Water Pumpo should run counterclockwise to the crankshaft. So I need to figure out where to put a tension and possible idel pully and run a serpentine belt. Any ideas or diagrams appreciated.

that year, the pump should be running clockwise. its only on the serp belt models that the pump runs counter clockwise. now if the pump was replaced with the incorrect unit, that will cause overheating

Ok I shoul mention that it is a 1986 camaro Z28, However the engine is brand new long block just built and bought 2 months ago. I think if my water pump should run clockwise then I need the impeller to be differnet. Or I need to set it up to run counterclockwise. Which is what I'm going to do. The tech where I bought the engine suggested I get a water pump for a 1979 350. Any toughts on that?
