The mystery Iroc
Hey guys...just joined up here (Not like you couldn't tell).
I've been searching for a car for many years now, but I haven't had any luck. I was hoping the experts here could point me in the right direction.
It was 1990 and I was living with my dad in Maryland. The car he gave me to drive was a white IROCK-Z. It wasn't a normal IROCK however. He had a couple of them in the past few years..I remember the red one that had "cross fire injection" that he used to ***** about.
This one was white. It had a 5.7 liter V8. He said it was a corvette motor but I can't confirm that. It had a "Gale Banks" emblem down where it had the Z28 badge. The car was a beast. it had a growl like I've never heard since. It had the deep growl of an old big block chevy..but I know that was the exhaust. That car has haunted me ever since. I've asked people about it but they all say I'm crazy. They tell me there was never a car like that.
My dad loaned it to a friend who got drunk and totaled it. So its gone forever.
If anyone has any info on a car like this..I would be forever in your debt.

In the 80's (1982-1988) Gale banks sold 20 cars and 70 engines for the Camaro. Unless your Dad was a avid Hotroder the chances of that car being Gale Banks equipped are Slim to Non. Unless you can fine more evidence about the car.

My father had been building and racing drag cars since the 50s. He owned a Covette speed shop at the time of hiss death. He was a very avid hot rodder. He also owned a Saleen Mustang and a calaway twin turbo corvette. The Iroc was the car I fell in love with however. It was my daily driver for almost 2 years until it got totaled.

You can buy Gale Banks twin turbo systems for the sbc in the aftermarket. No way of telling now if that emblem was from the car being equipped directly from Gale Banks, or if the system was an owner add on where a product sticker/badge that came with it was simply stuck on the car.

I do not know anything about Gale Banks but the "Corvette 350" your dad was talking about was L98 350. The L98 had a lot more toque then the its little sister 305 for the same years. Even stock the newer L98 would dwarfed the older, less then dependable 305 crossfire. These L98 350's are not super rare but they are much less common then the 305 versions. The 350's still demands a good price if they are in original condition.
