low oil pressure
My oil gauge sometimes reads as low as 30 on the Guage. I have moved to a place where I am much lower in elevation than my previous home.
It used to be a constant 60. Now in drive gear, it idles at 30 when I accelerate it goes back to 60.
I now have in it 10w30 oil, it's the only oil ever used in the engine.
Would switching to a 10w40 weight help improve my oil pressure? It is super hot outside.. so I thought 10w30 would be best... can anyone clarify on this? Thanks

I was doing some reading on a related post and I think I will try and change the filter first. Some say that can cause oil pressure problems. I'm using an stp s8873 filter right now, my previous oil change used the same filter, maybe this one is defective?
I have lived here for about 5 months and until I did an oil change, I never saw any difference in pressure. But now that I have changed the oil, the pressure has decreased..

If I had to guess I would say about 90% of the time when a car comes in with a oil pressure problem and NO other symptoms it ends up being an issue with the gage or the sending unit not the engine. Factory oil pressure gages and sending units are only slightly better then dumby lights. Even in a brand new car they are not very accurate.
Step one in the shop would be put a real mechanical gage on the engine and verify oil pressure. Now if a customer says I over heated my car last week and now the oil pressure dropped or the oil pressure is reading low and I hear a valve tapping then there is an issue. As mentioned 30 PSI is not bad. The rule of thumb is you need 10 PSI per 1000 RPMs to avoid damaging your motor. I have seen a lot of cars that idled around 10 PSI but shot up nicely at 2000 RPMs. Orange fram filters are the only ones I have seen cause oil pressure reduction but it is possible for a filter to be an issue.

I also replaced the stp filter with a pH 30 fram(I know what they say about fram) the pressure is great and stays at 60.
Thanks for the advice guys!
A buddy of mine said the elevation is not the problem, it's the humidity in the air.
Idk, but it works now! Thanks again
