Default What do you think of this Firebird Formula?

1991 Firebird Formula vey rare - 5.0,TPI, 5-speed, ws6, t-tops, 235 factory hp, special option engine, window sticker, 4-wheel disc, posi rear, new clucth, new a/c compressor but it has a leak in the system, dark green outside needs paint job, the body is in great shape, pw, pm, pl, cc, tilt, tan inside, tan gta seats in great shape also, factory radio, all # match, all original except for the seats. I also have new factory decals for the body. I am the second owner and the car has only 92k original miles, and it runs great and very fast. I spent a lot of $$$, it just needs a tune up.

He says he wants $1000 for it. The body appears to be in alright shape, as does the interior. I didnt really want something this new because of a few things:

1. The TPI system will make it harder to convert to carb (however, I could just use the TPI system, and get larger injectors for the 350, correct?

2. Air bag. I dont know if this is a big deal, mostly if I am going to go carb, if I stick with the computer I think I will be alright.

3. I dont really like the front clips on the 90+ firebirds.

It does however have the BW posi rear with 3.08 gears, 5spd, and new clutch.

you don't have to worry about the air bag, it's on a completely different computer than the ecu. and i HIGHLY doubt it's make 235hp, stock 305's made at most 195hp, and that was the H.O. motor.

i'd say it's a good find, great project car

Actually, it may be the 230 hp H.O. engine:

91 Z28
Formula
Trans Am
GTA M5 LB9 V8 9.3:1 5.0 (305) 230@4200 300@3200 TPI ---- 3.42 ---- ----

Or, it may be the 205 hp engine:

91 Z28
Formula
Trans Am
GTA M5,A4 LB9 V8 9.3:1 5.0 (305) 205@4200 285@3200 TPI 3.08 ---- 2.73 ----

Anyone know if the 3.08 gears were available with the rear disc?

1: You can do a lot more that just change the injectors on a TPI if you want. And the fuel injection is a better system than carb.

2: As mentioned before the air bag has a seperate computer. If yopu do not like the bag then you can change the wheel. Keep in mind though the air bag column is totaly different than the non bag column. So you would need a wheel adapter for an air bag column.

3: You can still insatll a Knight Rider kit on it.

As for the price being $1000 around here that would be cheap! It would be more like $2500 at least

I really just wanted to go with the simplicity of a carb, but that TPI is sounding pretty nice right now... The front clip isnt too big of a deal, I am sure it would grow on me. Right now I am trying to make up a list of possible cars. I will be down in Florida next week, and my father said within the first few days we will go hunting for one.
