Default Blinking head lights

My daughter broke her headlight switch. After removing half the dash I was able to remove the switch and found the retaining nut broke for one. That answered why she could not get the parking lights to turn off. I purchased a new switch from O'Reileys installed it and now the headlights come on for a minute then start to flash on and off? The last time I saw this was on an olds that had hilogen bulbs put in and tripped circuit breaker. Does this car have one of those too and what could be going on now? I could use a little help here. I have ordered and have to wait on the retainer nut.

The stock light switch has an internal circuit breaker that automatically resets after a small amount of time. I don't know the length of that interval, but it sounds like you have a current load that is just over the limit. The circuit breaker is on the headlight section of the switch, not the park lights.
The only other possibility would be an intermittent fusible link.

Thanks doug I will check the fuse links... if I can find them. I have put in two switches and am positive it is not them. Also unplugged each headlight one at a time and that did not do a thing... Seriously considered rewiring headlight circuit.

I wasn't suggesting that you have a bad switch. I stated that the current is probably higher than the switch's trip level, especially if it resets automatically.

when I had to replace a headlight switch on a 3rd gen I went to the boneyard and took one out of an 80's Caprice (or was it an Impala)

It was a station wagon and the switch worked like a charm for about $3-$5, can't recall the actual price I paid

Thanks Gary I have searched high and low for relays, fuse links, and something called a module without any luck. I have been under the hood the dash the car. All searches on line have yielded me nothing. I don't know the load on halogen bulbs compared to stock sealed beams which I can not find locally either so I am about to make my own wiring harness and power it up right off the battery.
I saw the schematic for that somewhere here....
