Default transmission / drive train problems. woopy!

so, pretty much at the top of first gear and all throughout second gear i get a metallic grinding / scraping sound. i looked it up in the diagnose section of my haynes, it said it could be a pin or bearing loose in the drivetrain. does this sound familiar to anyone?
it seems like an intermittent problem right now, but it sounds awful and idk if it could lead to a bigger problem down the road.

also, shifting out of third has become difficult, and shifting into fourth is VERY difficult unless i rev match it. seems obvious that it's tranny issues, what would one do to go about fixing it? i think tranny issues are above my skill level.

my poor car has many problems but she keeps on driving for me!

thanks for any help you may offer! you guys always do

i take it that its a 5 speed. those trans dont like being abused, and it sounds like yours has been and is starting to come apart. synchro's are more than likely gone, and the noise is probably the metal bits stirring around. the least you can do it change the oil in it and see if it helps at all. if not, start shopping around for a used trans. you can buy about 4 used ones at the cost of rebuilding one easily.

would replacing the tranny be more pertinent than fixing it? CAN you fix it? haha. i know VERY little about transmissions.
replacing a tranny isn't something that will happen for me. not in the near future anyway.

it can be fixed, but the price to do that would run you over $1000. you can get a trans from a junkyard for $100 and have it installed for under $300
