3rd gen rear axles
does anyone know if any 3rd gen camaro/firebird/ta came with a 12 bolt rear end, or the 8.5" rear housing i believe it is?? if so, what years? i would assume they put the 12 bolt in cars with the v8 options, but i dont know for sure

Only stock rears were 9-bolt , 10-bolt and a very few Dana 44. No matter if it was a V6 or V8 it came with the same rear (except for gear ratios).

There were early 8.5 10 bolt rears but I think in the third gens there was only the 7.5, 7.62 and the 7.75 Borg-Warner. And of course the Dana originaly for the 89 20th anniversary turbo T/A's

so what would be my best bet for an axle housing? i'm just worried that the 7 5/8" rear wont handle the power i'll be putting to it

RE: 3rd gen rear axles
yeah, the only issue i have with a 9" or other gm axle housings is the fact that they dont have a mount built in for the torque arm, i may just reinforce the housing and pray lol

i'm not too worried about it anymore, currie enterprises makes a 9" axle housing kit that bolts into the 3rd gen f bodies, comes with axle shafts too, about 1200 bucks, so i think i'll go with that
