Sorry for my part in the "confrontational" part of the thread. Making power with a 305 was never a problem for me. The stock heads can be ported and polished, crapy dished pistons and be replaced and the econo cam upgrade. Problem was alway keeping them in one pc afterwards. IMO 300 HP in a 305 is an easy build but anything over 270 HP you are moving into the high risk area on a stock or near stock 305 bottom end, even brand new.

I don't think either of us were confrontational, especially with each other (we've never been)

there is one post who calls pragmatists "305 haters" when it's anything but that.

It's just that as many know, with the availability of the 350 block, the interchangeable parts, it makes no sense to invest a lot of time and effort trying to get a 3.75 inch bore to perform and limiting the chamber size vs using a 4 inch bore for only a few dollars more (and no, not the one with Clint Eastwood)

i was talking about the victor but i have decided for my application that isnt necessary and ive decide the edelbrock air gap should be fine

i fully support you bro. look at it this way, if it dont fit just put hood scoop on the hood. i think i remember seeing a holly carb that was low profile, as well as an air cleaner too. might be worth lookin in too.

this is an interesting thread.... For a few reasons.

Im in the situation of I have a matching numbers car with a 305. I want more horse power. This thread shows how to get the numbers from a 305.

HOWEVER!!!!!

Im fortunate enough to have a tune port injection, tune port computer and the complete wiring harness for the engine. what Id like to know is would the tune port work with this engine combination.

Now Im no moron when it comes to a 350 with a carbie. However injection and 305s are new to me. SO BE NICE!!!!! OR BE Prepared for me to fire one back

Are you asking if a TPI system will work on a 305? Sure since GM made a 305 with TPI all the parts are available. I assume your TBI currently. Your engine will have less compression and a different Cam that an original 305 TBI, getting it tuned could be a problem since you will be going backwards in power from a stock 305 TPI setup.

I will say I am not sure how much it matters if you have matching numbers unless this is a low miles Z28. If you swapping out the injection system then it would matter even less.

Your RS 305 TBI uses crappy heads. The intake ports are designed for gas mileage, not performance, and they can't be "fixed". You need to scrap those heads and pick up a set of TPI heads, or better yet, HO heads.
