1974 wheel & tire size
#2
Lee ...depends on your offset and if you want to roll fenders. I have heard people putting 20x12 wheels on these (not something I would go with personally). I think an 18x9.5 with a 305 40/45 would fit great in the rear without too much worry.
You have to pay close attention to the offset/backspacing to make sure the wheel/tire is not pushed up under the car too much...might hit the leaf springs. A 0 or a -6mm offset would work for this size.

I went 17x7 +0mm offset (205x50x17) in front and 18x9.5 +0mm offset (275x45x18) in the rear with no clearance issues.

I just replaced all 4 wheels on my STOCK 1974 camaro. The following fit perfect with no customizing anything. Just bolt em on. Bought all 4 rims from Summit racing about $270 per rim.
Backs are 17" Rim x 9 inch wide with 4.5"back space. Cragar 61cSS Super Sport with Bridgestone potenza RE760 sport tires from TIRE RACK, size 275/40/17
Fronts are 17" Rim x 8inch wide with 3.5" Backspace, Potenza 235/45/17
Awesome mid/low profile tires!! You could go to a slightly taller front but not more than 1 size bigger
