406 sbc build
Hey guys I'm new to the forum and looking for some help. I'm looking to build a stout 406 sbc for weekend street use with some drag racing as well. I want to make around 550whp. I would like to hit that number n/a but also possibly interested in a turbo build. Originally planned on a twin turbo ls1 in this car but plans have changed.
I need info on a good block to go with (ive been looking at the Dart 406 shortblock) I also have no idea what heads to look at and I want a nice choppy cam. I plan on running a th400 trans with a 3200-3600 stall. Probably going to do a 12 bolt rear with 3:73 gears.
Any help and tips would be greatly appreciated. thanks guys

If the question was 550 hp at the crank then I thing a lot of answers would be out their. But 550 at the rear wheels is a different story. 550x20%=660 at the crank NA. With a power adder then its a lot easer to do. Now start with a after market block and add a stroker kit ( something like 434 inches)and good heads and some compression and the right cam and it becomes a lot easer.

you may want to check out www.karlperformance.com has few pretty stout 406 set ups if you added turbo you would make the hp your looking for ,making some good hp an torq .for the cost to build one the crate engine is becoming the way to go,i love mine so far ,they have there upgraded version has E street aluminum heads scat crank an 6.0 rods .600 lift . an to part the engine together would cost thousands more , just an idea
