Chevy V6 questions
Hello everybody, well my beloved 78 is starting to act up again in more ways then one, and with summer gas prices creeping up i have been looking for a 4 or 6cyl car to get while i park the camaro and begin my resto. a kid in my class has 2 chevells and tells me he has a 350 in one and a straight 6 in the other, apparently the straight 6 is the most reliable thing ever, not very fast however gets great gas mileage compaired to his 350, and then today i ran across a 6cyl 81 'maro! this one seems to be in great shape, nowhere near show room but a great DD, and in my price range! although it has the 3.8L 229cid V6 in it. i know nothing about these things and was wondering how good are they? im looking for reliability and something good-ish on gas. anything 22+ i'll consider amazing, ive had gas guzzlers my whole life. anyone know if these are good engines? any problems to look out for? if i can get 2 late 2nd gen camaros (my favorite car ever!) then i will truly be a happy camper! lol i dont care about speed whatsoever, thats what i got the 350 4spd for, this is just a nice 229 V6 auto WITH AC! im in love lol, thanks everyone!

I had a pontiac ventura 1977 with a 231 v6, pretty close to your 229, it was a nice little engine that i had very good luck with, people i talked too also said they are good engines. It depends who you talk to though i guess. Just driving around town i was able to get 17 mpg. I dont know if that helps much but id say im a fan of those v6 engines!
