yeah I'm not sure what it is, its still doing it, its shifting between 2nd and third when driving around 35 mph and like I said, ill put the trans down into 1st and at about 2000 rpm it will shift into second without me shifting it, when its still supposed to be in first. and for some reason it doesn't do this when its cold which doesn't really make sense to me. my tranny cooler is in my radiator and I know that's working. I honestly have no idea. I don't think its my shift linkage because the numbers on my console match what gear I'm in, and when I'm in drive it shifts and drives fine, it just keeps shifting in between 2nd and 3rd and when I put it in 1st it skips right over, I'm nit sure what to think.

Still the thing that makes the most amount of sense is the governor. Was your trans rebuilt or worked on before you got it? Governor could have been altered; different weights, springs.
Eh screw it, just put in a manual valve body and be done with it!

it was, because it has a shift kit in it, and yeah the manual valve body sounds like a great idea! haha, but, I have been doing some research and going back to when it first started acting up, Im 99% sure that my torque converter is bad. I did notice an increase in stall speed here recently and ever since then its been doing these symptoms, so I obviously haven't been driving it and I plan on ordering a new one here this week. probably going to go with a 2600 stall since my cam is very large, and hopefully the new converter will put an end to my problems.

This may or may not help. A friend of mine had a chevelle back in the 70's(high school) it had a big block and trans from the junk yard(not sure if it was 350 or 400),he told me it would shift out of 1st into 2nd by its self. He pulled down and put it to the floor and sure enough it shifted and so did the shifter handle on the column. What was happening was the motor was lifting and moving the linkage of the transmission making it shift.

I'm sure this isn't happening but...........

Update: torque converter failed causing issues in rest of tranny, tranny has been rebuilt and a 2300 stall has also been installed

mine has stage 2 shift kit an around 2600 stall meens that if i dont shift it will shift at 2600 rpms then generaly comes a chirp from the tires meening i can keep in first gear an it will shift through all the 3 gears but much harder with a shift kit there is the sweet spot though i forget most between 1 an 2, its more forgiveing from 2 to 3 an dont think i have tryed all 3 in first gear ,if i shift to early then it does not shift until it gets to the stall ,with a manual valve body its my understanding you have to shift ,an if one forgets to shift it can couse damage to the trany, sounds like if you dont have a trans cooler like said you need one with a stall an all the power, mine is mounted on my radiator with that high temp stickey tape speperate line to the trans,no trans cooler could have done in the torque converter an temps around 100 outside i would refrain from driveing in myself
