Depends on which T5 you buy. All T5's are not made equal. A world class T5 is much stronger than a V6 T5. If you get a T5 from a V8 it is rated around 300 ft. lbs., and with an upgrade kit it can be boosted to over 350 ft. lbs., but then you're getting into T56 prices. A 305 V8 is rated around 250 ft. lbs., so a T5 from a V8 should hold up, unless you got big stickly tires, and did a lot of clutch dumps.
The Saginaw was a budget 4 speed that went in pretty mild cars. It wont be any better torque rating than the T5. Almost all the other Muncie, and Borg Warner 4 speeds have higher torque ratings, and the Super T10, and Muncie M22 have much higher torque ratings compared to standard T10 and M20, M21 4 speeds. I wouldn't waste my time putting a Saginaw 4 speed in my car, even if it was free. At least a T5 will be equal rating, but give a 5th gear OD.

That's a very good price if it's in great shape! I don't se WC T5's under $500 around here. A shifter is easy, and cheap, unless you got an exotic shifter.
