81 advice
i have a 81 Camaro. on 12/15/15 i was driving down a country road and my floorboard turned orange. i came to a stop and 2 foot flames came out of the hood. i shut it down called 911 and the fire was out within 30 mins. but the fire had done it's work. i had full coverage insurance on it. They had cut into the hood with a grinder, to open the hood. the hood and both fenders had the paint burned from them. The windshield shattered when the water hit it the dash/ gauges and vents melted but the rest of the car is intact and after draining the 10 gallons of water from my floor board. seems to be in fine shape. the fire report says a short in a wire caused the fire.
My question to this community is:
I loved this car, i bought her for 6 from someone that moved to Missouri when she was valued more at 7.5-9. i have no idea what my insurance company (AARP) is going to try and claim the value as. i believe the 350 engine/350 tran to still be viable. i plan to have it taken apart and gone through. would this be something that should be fixed? (as opposed to buying a different one) im not the most mechanically inclined (yet). anyone have some insight into this?

im sure it will be totaled out by ins. it is between you and them to be able to keep the car.
I had my ram totaled but state farm would not let me keep it. If i was to keep then they would only give about half of the money as they assumed i would repair it......didnt make sense but none the less i was unable to keep it.

I think it comes down to if you really want to keep the car or not.

Sorry to hear.
If you can do a lot of the work you're self go for it. They are pretty simple cars,it doesn't look so bad, lot of remove replace,it's not bent up !
Beg for them to fix it is option also.
