It really depends on how the builder gets to 572 c.i. not the measurement itself. I'd be hesitant to go 572 if they went with the stock stroke and bored it .125" to get to 572, as that's getting too thin on the cylinder walls. The stock bore and stroke of a 454 is 4.25"x4.00" so boring .125" and stroking to 4.75" gets you a 572. You can also bore it .060" and stroke to 4.875" and get a 570, which retains a lot more cylinder wall.
But most builders of 572 start with a specially cast block that's a square bore and stroke of 4.50"x4.50" so there shouldn't be a problem with future boring if needed. Just be sure that whoever you get the 572 from is not using a 454 stock block, but starting with new casting that's designed for that cubic inch.

Here's a link to the Blueprint Engines 572 that Jegs sells. It's rated at 745 HP, and 710 ft. lbs. torque. It's based on a tall deck Merlin block.

Hi 1971BB427, Thank you for your comment and explanation. It is very useful information which assist me narrowing my choices on a good and reliable engine.

The engines build by Tom Nelson are made form DART 10.2 DECK 4.5 BORE, CALLIES 4340 FORGED 4.5 STROKE CRANK for the 572 and DART 10.2 DECK 4.6 BORE, CALLIES 4340 FORGED 4.75 STROKE CRANK for the 632. Below are the links which describes the engines in more little detail. If you have some time, visit the sites and advise your opinion on them:-

As far as I know, Tom uses Dart big M block. Is the dart m block dimensions the same as the 454 block or it is actually bigger (i mean longer and wider so it accommodate more cylinder wall thicknes?

Hear from you

No the outside dimentions are the same. There are "scallops" that bulge along the egeds to accomodate the igger bore along with internal diffeances. The case is essentually a tall deck BBC but the improved on it to get the cubes up. dart is located right here in Michigan and they do excellent work. Google the block and you will get their site which will break it down. They designed it to accept stock parts so it cant be that much different. A LOT heavier I would imagine and made fro better material.

Hi nomad, so dart is a better blcok than stock 454? By any chance, have you checked the engines I named in my previous post?

Ever heard about Steve schmidt racing engines and smeding performance engines?

Do not know which engine builder to select to be honest. Fed up of reading reviews on the internet. Everyone says his opinion and I more get lost!!!

Dart blocks have a great reputation, as does Nelson Racing Engines. I wouldn't worry about either.

Regarding Gear box, what would it be the best option? What gearboxes are available in the market?

Manual or auto?? TH400? Power glide? 4L80E??

Any suggestions?Thanks

Well its up to you. Do you want a stick shift? Or do you want OD or a Glide?

Not a lot of automatics that will hold that much HP and torque if you hammer it too often. Several options in the stick department that will handle it, but not all street friendly.
Check out Liberty Transmissions TKO 500 or TKO 600 with upgraded faceplated 2nd-3rd-4th gears. About $3,000 but should handle the higher HP, as long as your rear axle, clutch, pressure plate are all strong enough.

Don't know exactly what I want. My 85 camaro is manual and I like it very much. Always had the impression that automatic gearbox will handle more torque than the manual. If this is true or not I do not know!!

What is best to use a TH400 or a Power glide? Any one knows the benefits between the two?
