Default 632ci engine installation in 78 camaro

Hello out there. I own a 78 camaro. Currently under restoration. I am planning to install a 632 BBC chevy, TH400 gearbox, 9 inch rear end (possibly narrowed), coilovers, big disc brakes all 4rs.

Somebody ever installed a 632 big block in a second gen camaro? Any helpful tips and/or mods required to fit a 632 bbc in a second gen camaro engine bay?

Thanks a lot

Hi,

632! n GO big or Go home. I got ZERO on the 632 but if the external dims. are the same as a typical chevy 427, - 454, It will bolt right in. Lots of room in the engine bay.

Hi,
Yep, 632NRE most probably.. I do not know the dimensions. I will ask and search on the net to see if I find anything. Never had similar projects in my life. This is my first project and I need to plan it carefully!!!

Welcome to the forum clacia. 632NRE as in a Tom Nelson setup?? Wow! Impressive! I don't have enough money to buy a pulley off one of his engines.

First welcome.

Its just a tall deck BBC. Not sure but I'm thinking its a 10.5 deck. After market block for certain. Your brake booster will hit the valve cover for sure. Use BB mounts and it will physically fit fine. But honestly if you have to ask about how it fits and call a TH400 a "gearbox", its probably more motor than you can handle. But it depends how its built. Which by the way is gonna be cubic dollars.

If your gonna drive it on the street back off on the goal a bit and build a nice 496. Their cheap to build and plenty powerful. To be honest you sound lost on your goals. big brakes indicate you want to carve corners. 632" indicate you want to drag race it. Its not gonna turn for crap with a BB hanging off the nose in my opinion. So first sit down with a pad of paper and right down exactly what you want to do with the car. Then ask a few guys around here how to achieve that. Right now your suffering from 'give me the biggest thing I have heard of all at once' syndrome. The only way to "plan carefully" is to sit down and actually plan.

Hi both.
Thanks for welcoming me. Its my first time ever on a forum. As well my first time planning a built. Let start from here - my intention is a show car (only for weekends).

No intentions for drag or track at all. Never had a big block only 85 camaro with a small block so I cannot tell power difference between a 496 and 632. Definitely I want a big block and good brakes other than stock. Better gearbox and propshaft and a beefed rear end.

The 632 from nelson racing engines is a 10.2 tall deck 4.6 bore 4.75 stroke. Never built any engines. I am leaving the job to a professional builder to do it for me.

Some guys says that a stroker engine (say a 632) may give trouble on rotating parts if used for street every day.....

See your replies. Thanks

Bolting the engine into the car is the easy part. Actually making everything strong enough to handle any BBC with over 500 hp is the tough part! There's a lot more than just bolting it in and connecting up a trans and rear axle. Lots of upgrades need to be made to the chassis, body, and suspension. Part of that will be addressed by the 9" Ford and 4 link, but you'll need lots more frame and chassis upgrades to ever use even part of the torque and power that 632 will put out.
Welcome to the forum, and lot of luck with your project!
