putting an ls1 in an 81 firebird

Question is whether it runs. If it's a rebuildable core, then you're looking at major money to get it rebuilt. At $1400 for engine/trans, it's almost too good to be true. But give a call and see if he can set it up to run on a stand, or if you're buying it as-is.

hey everybody, it's been a while. i've decided i'm definitely putting an ls series engine in the car, but right now it needs some body work. does anyone know where to get some decent floor pans at a good price? also, the bottom of the drivers door has a pretty big rust hole. is that something that can be patched, or should i just get a new door? also, the fenders are dented, can they just be pushed back into place? finally, there's a whole in the roof. am i going to need to cut a roof out of another car, or can i match it with sheet metal? thanks!

Sounds like a ton of bodywork issues, and I think with all the issues I'd be carefully looking under the car at the rear frame rails, etc. before beginning any of this work. With this much work and materials needed, you'd be better off parting it out and getting another that's a better base. It will save you a lot of money, and work. If the rear frame rails are as bad as the rest the car sounds, you should not proceed with your plans on this car, but instead get another to begin with.

I agree, definitely check those rear rails very closely.I had an 81,that didn't need near that amount of bodywork, mine only had a small hole in the door, and a small amount of rust in the rear quarters, and when i got under it,the rear passenger side rail was missing about a 1 foot section of metal,so again before you put any money into the car,get under it and really check every spot of those rails.

I personally wouldn't spend any time or money on an '81 that sounds this bad. The parts alone will be more than another more solid car. Sell it, scrap it, or save it as a donor for a better car. '81 Camaros are not that expensive, or hard to find.
