Default 400 sbc build (gen 1)

hello, I got my hands on an ole gen1 400sbc engine and was looking to build her up. I was looking to make 450-500 hp with the build and was looking here for a little help, I picked out a setup that I think will work well, but I'm not sure, let me know what you think or if you have any suggestions to a different route, I plan on using the car for street use mainly, the build would be going in a 77 Camaro with 3.73 gears, 2300 stall, anddddd yeah so let me know what you think, thanks, links to "setup" below

it also has angle style plugs...soo I might need different headers, so if anyone knows any decent ones for less then 300, that can be used with angle plugs, that'd be great

Sounds like a lot of money being spent on this set up. I think you bottom end is over kill on this stock block. Something with a set of flat tops for half the price will get you their. Spend the money on the top end parts cam heads ect. You might look at a complete 406-427 build that's out their using a after market blocks. Some complete motors ready to run can be had for what you might have after the machine work and part and as having it put together plus dyno time. I always say, Half the fun is in the Hunt.

If you can start with the later Gen.1 Vortec block 880 casting or some of the 86-95 638 blocks that are set up for a hyd. roller cam. This will save you a lot of money in building a 383 because of the cost of the valve train. Better yet if you can get a complete vortec 880 casting with the vortec heads 906 or the 062 castings you are way a head of the game for making power. I think car craft did several of these strokers using the comp. EX282HR and wound up with something like 460-70HP and 485TQ and keeping it under 6200RPMs. You can check out the build your self and go from their. They started with the 383 and vortec heads and built from their. Stock then the 395 bigger cam then the GM hot cam and last the Comp big stick. I have done 6 of these vortec strokers using the stand bore kit and cams ranging for the comp. 270 and the GM hot cam and for my self the EX282HR. I kept the rockers at 1.5 because the bracket class I run you can not go faster then 12 flat. On summer air it went 12.16 at 114mph for a test pass. Pulled 2 degrees of timing out filled the gas tank up and added some weight in the back and slowed it down to where I wanted to be. Vortec heads 383 or 377cu. in. and the right cam and your where you wanted to be for a lot less money. If your interested in one of these motor let me know or just build it your self.
