Default 1967 rear end...

Here's a photo of the rear end under my 1967 Camaro. I am pretty certain it is the stock rear end that came with her. It is a 10 bolt, single leaf. Other than that, I don't know anything about her. I do know that when she power stalls, the passenger wheel is the only one that turns. Does anyone know where or how I could get more info? Will it be numbered? If so, where will I find a cross-reference to find out more about the rear end? Thanks in advance.

There should be codes stamped on the axle that may or may not be readable. They will include date codes and the 2 letter code that designates what application the rear end was set up for, including gear ratio. Look on the front side of the passenger side axle tube.

One good source for running numbers is "Chevrolet By The Numbers". I have a copy so if you'll post the numbers I'll look them up for you. Make sure you include the part number which is the 7 digit casting number.

Thanks Moon...I really appreciate your help. I'll get back with you as soon as I can take a look at the axle.

This car was originally a 6 cyl, and I'm planning on giving her either a beefed up 350 or 400 so I want to make sure the entire drive train can handle it.

Thanks again and I'll be in touch.

Hey Moon, I've got the numbers for you. You would not believe how much undercoating and sludge had built up under there. In some places, it was a 1/4" thick...SERIOUSLY!

Anyway, after much cleaning, I finally found this, "PW12090"
Now the P could be an R for a "RW12090"
Also, the last 0 could be a C for a "PW1029C"
Or, if I got them both wrong, it could be "RW1029C"

Hopefully, only one of the above combinations works with their formula. Thanks in advance for looking it up for me.

I forgot to tell you that I got this number from the front of the passenger side axle. Please let me know what you find out. My research on the internet has left me pretty confused. Thanks again.

The PW code is for a 2.73:1 stock gear ratio according to Chevrolet By The Numbers and the website Wade listed. You didn't list the casting number but for a 67 10 bolt it should be 3894859NF. There is no RW code listed for 67.

The date code 1209 is for December 9. The letter after 1209 should be a G, B, K, or W, representing the assembly plant. If it's a G the plant is Detroit Gear & Axle.
