I'm wanting EFI conversion..I think
I have a 67 with 406 engine..I want it converted over to EFI..With the cam in it now it takes a few minutes to warm up before I can back out of the garage(500hp @ flywheel) ..I'm not a mechanic so I'm relying on a friend to install what ever will be the best conversion, but he's never done this before so he doesn't know what all to buy.. I'm sure we could call Holley, etc but would rather get y'alls take on it first..Will someone that's familiar with this Please advise us..I will appreciate it greatly!!

Well. i see that 154 people looked but not one comment so I guess it must be an odd request and difficult to reply..I said I wasn't a mechanic..All I need is for someone with some experience in this conversion to maybe put me on the right track with some Kit suggestions that have been used..Or tell me who to contact
Thanks

there are kits you can install that bolt right to the manifold, Holley 550-406k terminator master kit $2400.00 for the money i would deal with a warm up ,my carbed Edelbrock with electric chock 406 ,does fine in temps above 50 ,but i never drive it in winter anyway, only the warmer weather start an go pretty much ,but a few times at 45F 5 minutes ,i know they say all this only 1 to 2 minutes no matter how cold it is out ,we get ice up hear in the NE that can take 10 minutes or more to melt off so ,cold hot warm, its all is what it is , an kind of a different subject ,but who wants to get in a freezing cold car not me

I know a few guys who swapped over to EFI and I admit it is nice. They get in turn the key and vroommm, their cars fire right up. I would look at the Atomic EFI, FAST or Fitech systems. A few of the main things to look at is how the systems accept fuel weather it needs a return line or is returnless and how do you interact with the system, do you need a laptop or does it come with a controller. Also you will want a system that is self learning.

SO many option, pick a manufacture and call them, 5 years ago I would have said FAST was the way to go but now the other guys are right there. Roadkill did an episode where they installed a Holley EFI system in the parking lot of the store they bought it in.
Have you ever had your carb Dyno tuned by a pro? I have yet to hear "well that was a waste of money" in most cases you get "why did I wait" In some cases it is the single best upgrade on the car.

I met a guy at a cruise in last week who had done a FITech system and was raving about how simple it was... and how nice it was to get in and just start it up without all the burping and farting our carbed cars do in anything but hot weather LOL. I believe it has its own brain, is self learning... I forget about the fuel return stuff.

Self leaning is now almost standard in all systems. Even Mega squirt has a self leaning module. 5 years ago I would have said FAST system because it's self leaning was ahead of everyone else but now they all have it.

Probably the biggest part of the decision is whether to run an external fuel pump or go whole hog with a new gas tank with the immersed fuel pump. Some people complain about external fuel pumps but honestly, they've been around for decades and in theory... the technology should be improved. Depends on the budget I guess.
