Default Saginaw M20 swap 69 shifter issues

Been awhile since I was on here. Looked through all the threads but couldn't find this. I swapped out my Saginaw for M20 (451 - told out of 63 vette)3851325 in 69 Camaro 350 with center console. Used same bell housing. I used a Hurst 3734529 linkage kit with my HUU-3917438 competition plus but now the shifter is really far forward. I had to cut about 2" of floor out in front of the hole to make work. Now my console has to be so far forward you can't see the front 2 gauges. Called hurst and they told me I have the right combination but the guy didn't seem too confident in his answer. Anyone who has really touched Camaros with this combination have advice? It works but the shifter that far forward really feels strange now and console looks stupid like that. The linkage kit shifter mount plate has a slot cut into it to adjust but it is all the way down and can't go any more. Thought about making the slot longer down but not sure that would cure anything except tipping the shifter down more rear and not relocating it. Please help, thanks!

Just thought of this - The guy that rebuilt M20 asked me about my speedo output as this one had it on the passenger side. Mine was out of the drivers side on Saginaw. He changed the tail shaft housing out on M20 to a speedo out on the drivers side. Could that have caused the distance issue? Not sure what that tailshaft housing came off of.

I just did a M20 installation and my shifter was to far forward. I had to order the correct shifter linkage mount kit and shifter arm. I called Hurst and they were confused so I said ok, lets start over, I have a 1969 Camaro with a Muncie 4 speed and asked what do I need and had them ship that one and it fit perfectly.. Now in your case are there studs sticking out where the linkage arms attach to the transmission or do you need a bolt to screw in to the transmission linkage connector?
The Saginaw and Muncie are two different linkage kits.

IceCobra it has the posts sticking out with the nuts on them. Is the number you have listed the right linkage kit? Thanks.

I looked up the 3737437 and looks like I could keep my current arm attachments that mount to the stud and nut and swap out the linkages and mounting plate with the 3737437??

If you contact Hurst, although you have a 1969 your transmission is 68 or earlier. So yours is definitely different, but I don't know how its different other than the mounting studs. The length and other dimensions of the transmission are exactly the same just you have studs sticking out instead of threads to put bolts in. Tell technical exactly what you have and they will tell you exactly what you need. Since it lines up on the transmission mount, bracket you should be good to go..

I will call them tomorrow. They told me before because it a 451 or m20 I would need the 67/68 Muncie kit for my 69 to mount up but it doesn't work out in the right place. I guess 67/68 Camaros must have the shifter farther forward than 69. Maybe because of the dash design change?? Seems the 67/68 slopes back towards front more than 69 protruding back? I found some old notes and did have the kit you mentioned wrote down but they convinced me otherwise. Like you say I guess I will need to talk slower as the last guy kept hesitating and sounded like he was looking up stuff at the same time looking for an answer. Thanks for your help!

I thought about it last night. the shifter should be the same. 69 and 68 are the same center console. All mounts, body holes, seating, engine and transmission are the same in length. So the kit I told you should be the right kit other than its for a trans with bolt holes where the levers attach. And I looked at the kit and mounts and I don't see any difference between or if it has studs or bolt holes will make a difference. They both attach and go on the same. I can tell you that [art of the issue for sure is the attachment plates you have now are slightly different in angle when attached as the kit they sent me. I had what you have and had to get what I have now to get it to fit and sit back far enough.. I would think the numbers I gave you would be correct but run it by Hurst and ask the tech guys..

I did the same swap on my 68. I ended up using the Saginaw linkage. I still had to move my console forward about an inch or so but I think it turned out good and I can still see my gauges.
