Console gauge conversion help
Hi guys. I'm converting my 67 Camaro from non console gauge to console gauge and just have a query. With the console can you just cut a hole in the existing console or do gauge consoles have a recess that the gauges fit into. i.e are they stepped down for the gauges to fit in neater?

This is the factory type gauge pod for a console:
The openings accept aftermarket gauges, and it has a back box that sits in the console. In some cases a slight modification may be needed to adapt the aftermarket brackets to hold the gauges. I just finished putting Autometer gauges in my buddy's '68, and we used a '67 pod, as the '68 was rectangle gauges.

You guys obviously don't own a 67 Camaro lol. The 67 Camaro console is one piece moulded. So you have to change the entire console to fit console gauges. Or cut a hole to suit. I am in Australia so with the freight charge it costs a fortune to buy one. That's why I was gonna cut a hole to fit the console gauge assembly.

The 68 and 69 are the same design where the console has a removable plate. And right, your console doesn't, it's all one piece. The 67 console that's designed for the gauge pod (what Vall showed above) has a cutout and screw mounting tabs for the pod. You can either cut yours out and improvise the mounting, or buy an aftermarket console and sell your current one.

this post is a bit old, but, i just saw it now..... i did this install on mine. it's a little daunting at first, but, it isn't too bad. it would help a TON to have a dremel for some fine-tuning after the initial cut. measure three times, cut once.. then cut again.
