69 console gauge replacement
#2
HAs the gauge ever worked?
Is this an add-on gauge or OE console gauge?
If a console or add-on aftermarket gauge, the sensor is a variable resistor and decreases ohmic value internally of the sensor making the gauge indicate a higher temp.
If OE gauge, there should be less than 1 ohm resistance between the sensor body and cylinder head/intake manifold as sealant can insulate the sensor body so current does not pass through completing the circuit.
If gauges added later in Camaro life, the original sensor would have been a thermal switch for TEMP light. Gauge will never work.
A quick check in gauge working is remove the senor pigtail and ground the wire - gauge should read far right hand side of face.
