Make sure you have the correct thermostat, 195 degrees. A lower temperature thermostat (or no thermostat at all) will make it run hotter, not cooler, because the water doesn't stay in the radiator long enough to cool.

No thermostat is not good because of the flow rate. But just because a thermostat opens a little sooner (165 stat) has no effect on the cooling capability of a system. Old racers trick is to just put in a restrictor plate to slow things down. Also racing water pumps have lower flow rates at higher RPMS.

The flow being to fast is a function of high RPMs. A car without a thermostat sitting at idle is not going to flow water so fast it can not cool. Anyone who has been forced to go with no thermostat for a week in the north knows it is tuff to even get the water warm enough to defrost your windshield at idle. A motor running a 6500 RPMs for extended amounts of time can have issues.

No need to do this more then once. Even then its risky. If you don't get all the oil out you risk hydro locking the motor. That would put a lot of stress on the piston, rods and rod bearings and could cause major internal damage to the motor.

All, we had the radiator re-cored for $600. Have had it blasting up and down the highway in 85 degree temps and it just barely gets to a quarter on the console temp gauge. Problem solved. Thanks all the thoughts and help.
