Help with a 327/210 HP performance question
Hello everyone,
I am new to this forum, and have a couple of questions for all of you.
I am a proud new owner of a 68 Coupe with an original matching #'s 327/210 engine.
My question is can I (should I) install a dual exhaust system and headers?
It has the original headers and single exhaust on it now. If so...do you have any recommendations on headers and a dual exhaust for this engine?
Also...should I keep the engine original, or can I modify it (double hump heads, new lifters, new cam, 4 barrel carb for more HP), but keep the original parts, or just plan on putting an entire new engine in, and storing the old matching #'s engine in case I do want to go back to original?
Sorry if this has been posted already...any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks a lot!

i have a 68 with the #'s matching 327 in it and i kept it in the car but i added date coded 68 202 camel humps and a factory over the counter aluminum high rise intake. its basically a stock 68 z/28 intake but has a bowtie on the back runner. i put a edelbrock 600 cfm carb on it too. i kept the iron manifold and quadrajet. im running stock exaust manifolds with factory duals with a z/28 muffler. it all looks orginal because all the parts used are original pieces. its up to you though what you want to do with the car. i chose to keep my 68 orignal because it was to nice of an original car to mod.

It all depends on what you plan to do with it. If you are looking to show it and/or keep it worth it's maximum dollar amount, leave it original. If you are looking for performance and having fun, then pull the whole original setup out and drop a good crate motor it it. A new ZZ350 or 383c.i. will move it well! Check out Flowmaster's 2.5" and 3" dual exhaust systems with the 40 series mufflers. Great performance for the price and it sounds awesome! Either way, be sure to keep and preserve that original setup. It's gaining value by the hour. Especially if it matches the car! Good luck to ya!

Whatever you remove is fine, but I'd keep it all well stored if possible. The exception would be the exhaust system. Unless the exhaust system is in close to new condition, there's no reason to hang onto it. Replacement exhaust sustems can easily duplicate the original, but I doubt anyone would ever want to go back to the original single exhaust system.
