Default Heidt's Subframe and rear end????

got told today from Heidts that they have had issues with their subframes in regards to using anything bigger than a 454 big block in a 67 camaro. He recommended we rebuild the original sub frame and use it. He also recomended using the original rear or 10 or 12 bolt (or a ford 9 inch) and switching it over to 4 link, with sub frame connectors. As far as the front, he suggested a close ratio steering box, use coil overs with tubular control arms, and use the factory spindles to retain the 70's look for height. We want a better ride and handling than original, but don't expect it to be like a corvette. Wanting a close ratio steering box chang out, also. What's the best one to go with? This car will be used for cruising, not track racing. Maybe see an occasional 12 hour highway road trip. I want to be reasonable on the build, without getting carried away. I see this build is changing as we move forward, and wanted to ask all of you for your advice on what heidt's is suggesting. Would the 502 crate engine be ok with the original subframe, or should we consider a 496 (bored over 454 block) or 454 as the biggest engine for this car? They want a big block, but I don't want to over do it, either.

According to Chevy Performance Catalog. ... Big cube engines - starting with 502 and going up - will weigh a bit more, 502 block ... block 572 or 502 short block would weigh about 15-20# more then a stock 454 short block.

It's not the engine weight they're concerned about, it would be the extra torque (twisting force) of a bigger engine.
Have you checked other companies like Detroit Speed, or Speedtech Performance, to see where they rate their subframes? Chassisworks and Schwartz Performance make some slick full frames for our cars, but it's a bit more pricey than a subframe.
Are you building a comfy cruiser, a road savage, or something in between? Another option is to use solid motor mounts, which ties the block and frame together as one unit. Doing that though, adds vibrations through the body that some may find undesirable.

we have backed up and are thinking of going 454 or 496 and just rebuilding the original subframe and adding the goodies. Any suggestions on where to buy an awesome brake set up and all the parts to rebuild the front sub frame. What is the best steering box to use for a fast ratio steering? This might be the easiest route to take. Any other issues with stuffing a big block into this car. Use coil overs with 4 link rear suspension? Was thinbking using tubular a arms. Do I need special springs for the weight of a big block?

anyone? Is anyone running the original subframe with a Big Block (old school style)? Can anyone give some advice on how to proceed, and where to get the stuff to do a big block swap. Best aftermarket disc brakes? Going to 12 bolt posi, where do i get this stuff. I am not a big camaro guy, so I do not know these answers, but want to learn. I was thinking going with Wilwood brakes, 4 link rear, coil overs on front, new fast ratio steering box from maybe Detriot Speed.
