What changes to the Gen V should be made for Gen VI??
#22
I mean everyone will have their opinions on why the car was killed in 2002...I believe styling had ALOT to do with it..
I did a little research and found the production numbers broken down by year. I then retyped them and split them up by generation and added each generation up...by far the FOURTH GEN was the least produced...which translates to..the least ordered by dealers and the least SOLD. Even the First gen, a car in production for 1/3 of the time beats it. The numbers do not lie.
Here is the TOTAL PRODUCTION NUMBERS of Camaro since 1967.

then like H2C said there were special editions. the 35th anniversary was that year, the Last of the Breed was offered for Firebird and the car was marketed as the last.. Alot of people probably figured they would own a piece of history. If you look at the statistics the year after any official anniversary model year was very poor.
1992 was the 25th anniversary, and 1993 dropped 30k units, even though it was the first year for the gen 4
1997 was the 30th, and 1998, even with the updated front end and engine combo was down

Wow!! I would of stopped production too. If they didn't camaros probably would've became the laughing talk in the industry. Imo I wish they make the 5th less bulky and slim, sexy, with the same mean look. Like a TA or something.

I agree with H2C. There needs to be more flexibility in options. As it is now, with almost every car on the market, you have to get a fully loaded top of the line model to get a couple things you actually want. I want to be able to get the big engine, the 6 speed trans, and not have to pay for a navi, or heated windshield washer jets. Crank windows, manual locks, vinyl seats, and 400hp. Thats a damn car!

Imagine a 4th gen style car with about a 2300~ pound wet weight and 300 HP turbo 4...
Excuse me while I change my pants

+10 on the t tops, these were something that separated these cars from the rest. they should have a special edition option titled: Trans Am or Bandit. this being a 6th gen, but with a different outer body, flip up lights, bird on the hood, and the baddest engine/trans/rear combo available. to boost sales on it they should do a limited production run per year, say 500? It would put the squeeze on the crowd. if i remember correctly, the Grand National in its last year 1987, sold regular GNs and GNXs; something like 547. they all sold and most kept their value, i remember a few years back Id see them on ebay going for 100 thousand. so if they make a limited edition called trans am, i can definitely see this selling out like hotcakes.
As for camaros, i only sat in one at the autoshow. RS should be v6, then z28, then SS. however the body kits should be different this way each could be easily recognized as what it is. unlike the 5th gens.
If GM keeps at this rate of repeating the cars timeline, then the next camaro would be like a second gen? It may sell, it may not, but i dont think it would be a good idea to do the copycat thing again, they need to lose the bulkiness of the 5th gens and bring it back to the basic fundamentals of what a camaro is made up of, and then go from there. speed, torque, stance, options, shape

meanwhile, cow catchers are still a go. stupid crap. if you get hit by a friggin car the flip up headlight is the least of your worries.
I miss the TransAm, that was always a sexy car.
