2010 1LT V6 engine troubles
Let me be upfront from the very beginning...I know very little about the interworkings of a car motor. I have a 2010 1LT V6 Automatic.
This morning I was driving to work traveling at about 40 miles per hour before getting onto the interstate and accelerating to a higher speed. Immediately my car started vibrating, I only can compare it to a blow-out, however I could tell from the steering that that was not the cause. I pulled over, walked around the car and noticed that there seemed to be an unusual amount of exhaust still coming off the car after being turned off. I could smell a strong oil/gas mixture. I got back in and drove between 20/30 for another 10 miles to the nearest dealership. This afternoon when I called to see what they discovered I was told that the spark plugs on one side were not firing and they really didn't know why, it looked like they would have to call GM Tech Service department for assistance.
Anyone have a clue as to what could be going on?
This is planted the seed in my mind as to questioning what's next?

yikes man that really bites...sounds like what they say could be true, i wouldnt know why one cylinder wouldnt be getting any spark though. dont know too much about the new v6 engines. maybe there was just a faulty spark plug?

That is weird. Each cylinder has it's own coil on plug. Did they say which side? Some tech tid bits on the motor:
Firing order: 1-2-3-4-5-6 (ironic but this really is the firing order)
Cylinder layout: ____________________Front of car
_________________________________1 _________ 2
_________________________bank 1__ 3 _________ 4__bank 2
_________________________________5 _________ 6
(sorry for the lines, the posting won't let me leave spaces)
Might be ignition control unit or maybe even the PCM (Powertrain Control Module). Either way thank goodness for the warranty. Keep us posted.

Makes me wonder if there's something more specific - a V6 running on 3 cylinders from a lack of spark would run rough, even at idle. And I'm not sure what would cause an entire bank of injectors to go bad, especially since they're all coil-near-plug - unless there's a short in the harness somewhere.
